You may call me a naive fool, but I think that "the people" technically have the ability to change the government as they see fit through the democratic process. Technically, mind you. It would mean actually maintaining a constant vigilance about leaders and issues, taking the time to be well informed, and going out of your way to learn about electoral options outside of what's being spoonfed in 30 second tv ads and 5 second soundbites. What I just described in the previous sentence is not at all realistic on a widespread level. BUT...in some sense, I believe that if the public is too lazy, ignorant, and apathetic to fully utilize their democratic rights to attempt to change things, then armed rebellion to take down a corrupt or oppressive government is not really justified. It only becomes justified once we've legitimately exhausted our lawful options, and that has not been the case.
