Honestly Com are you really trying to argue that songs that are simultaneously 4/4 and 23/16 time signature and then change to 4/4 and 13 8 are standard song structures ? Do you hear them all there time in popular music, hear it a lot on X factor ? Hell even song that employ anything other than 4/4 and 3/4 time are uncommon in popular music, so why you are trying to argue this lost cause I have no idea.

Keep going man, in your own words you said Meshuggah's songs were standard structure, 23/16 over 4/4 is NOT A STANDARD TIME SIGNATURE. Anyone who knows anything about music and I mean playing it not listening, knows this is true, there is nothing normal, average or ordinary about it, you won't find it in the billboard top 100. All you'll find the is STANDARD 4/4 or 3/4 maybe 6/8, even 5/4 or 9/8 if Dave Brubeck or Soundgarden make comeback... but 23/16 over 4/4, you are dreaming.

Maybe they are not avant garde, but you spent so long trying to claim Meshuggah's song are standard fare I kinda stopped caring. Something being done before doesn't make it standard or usual, How many men and women have gone to space ? They've been doing it since the 60's but it's anything but standard.

I never claimed that Meshuggah are unique, quit saying I did when I didn't, I said the amount of bands who do similar are very very few, and I am right. Go back and look at the posts.. it's there, me saying Meshuggah aere unique is NOT THERE so stop with the strawman

My musical taste can be summed up as " I don't know art but I know what I like". Fringes of that don't appeal to all, but for the most part I have only slightly off centre tastes. I appreciate well executed pop [goldfrapp, for example], while hating the pop world, like well executed choral music which has darker tones, while being generally disinterested in anything labelled classical.

Whatever gets my brain switched on i guess. Usually anything with interesting time structure, good layering and generally negative or dischordant with positive/ structured conclusion [Pixies/ sonic youth being the benchmark.]
