I think it creates a shopping list for criminals.

It did in Canada when the, now defunct, long gun registry was hacked over 300 times and left with over 40 unsolved thefts of good quality and usually large collections.

Today some guy set a house on fire and then when the firefighters arrived, he shot and killed 2 of them with an assault rifle. The shooter had previously served many years in jail for beating his own grandmother to death with a hammer. Had we been smart and banned assault rifles after he claimed his first victim, today's tragedy could have been averted, but we never learn, do we?

The police chief said there had been quite a few unresolved gun larcenies recently. If he stole the gun, then whoever he stole it from wouldn't have had it for him to steal if they had been banned.
