Simple facts, again.
6 percent of the population was to be supported by Social Security. Most people worked until they died. Social Security was for those who beat the odds and needed help to survive.
This was about survival. Keeping old people from dying in the streets.
Now we have people living longer, in better health, drawing from Social Security and Medicare for decades.
The populists have transformed these safety nets from insurance into entitlements.

Welfare,food stamps, hud, etc, is a govt gift. SS requires you work and contribute, thus its not a govt gift. As for healthcare, we have medicaid,we don't need a massive new system. We can make the cost as reasonable or un reasonable as we want.

The best retirement plan is not to live beyond your means during your working life. And never play the "keeping up with the Jones's" game.
