Sure it has more guns than a school, but for an enlisted man to get one would not be easy. Even an officer would have a hard time getting a gun. There may be a lot of guns, but not a lot of access and the proximity of the range has no bearing.

You would need to know more about military procedure.

A friend of mine had a cap and ball .44 on Ft. Bragg. But it was always locked in his trunk and we never got checked going in or out. That was `1968 -69. Have no idea what procedure is like these days. But I'm betting it's tight.

I worked on military bases up till Dec 2011 and even the guards at the gate dont have ammo in their weapons till the threat level is raised to B (plate at the gates). Now it is possible that this could be different on Army or Navy/Marine bases, but this was coming from an Air force colonel i would BS with during inspection time who was stationed at Barksdale AFB where there are enough nukes turn the lights out for us all. The convo came up when i asked why some days they had a humV with a .50cal at the gate.... he opened by saying its all for show.
