I wish I lived and worked somewhere that had public transportation. It just isn't feasible here. We do have a Community type bus, but it is used mostly by FNGs to town and the disabled or elderly, and not even often by them.
I knew a girl back in my early 20s who had moved here from San Francisco who had never learned to drive and she was about 26 or 27. My mind literally could not wrap around the idea of not driving or not needing to. You really can't get a job here if you don't have your own transportation. Seriously, it is asked on the application and at the interview. Employers ainna gonna deal with constant, "I can't find a ride" excuses.
Used to be all the mines had buses to take the crews out. Now, only two do. It's bullshit. People should not be expected to work a 12 hour shift and spend an extra 45 min to an hour driving. I've seem me and my X when we get home from that. By your 4th shift of the week, you aren't exactly safe out on the roads. The waste of having 50 to 100 vehicles driving to and from twice a day rather than 3-4 buses is really silly too.
