When I played with E85 it wound up being closer to 20-25% loss than 40. But I'm sure it varies widely engine to engine. But yes it is quite bit more expensive.
Around here Arco (BP) uses 10 or 15% ethanol. And they force you to go into their little store to pay, where if you swipe a card you get charged like 45 cents or something.
Arco can suck one. I'd much rather just pay the extra dime. Can't escape the ethanol, though, unless you buy premium. State law. Only way around it is for boats and planes and classic cars where the ethanol can do some real damage.
