We get the government we deserve.
Something like 84 percent of Americans disapprove of the job Congress is doing. Yet a Representative has a 98 percent chance of getting re-elected should he choose to run for re-election, while a Senator has a 70 percent chance.
What does that tell us?
It tells us that more than half of Americans like THEIR OWN Congresscritter, and a super-super-majority hate the OTHER GUY's Congresscritter. We are a nation that points out the mote in the other guys' eyes while ignoring the beam in our own. We are a nation that wants more and more benefits from the government while forcing the other guy to pay for it. We are a country that sees a problem and reflexively asks, "What is the government going to do about it?"
We are on the road to serfdom, my friends.

We have so many people who can't see a fat man standing beside a thin one without coming to the conclusion the fat man got that way by taking advantage of the thin one. - Ronald Reagan
