I really am missing something here.

How would anyone have anything they wanted without having to give up anything in order to have it? I cannot envision a scenario like that at all. I don't mean, "I can't see how it would work." I mean, "I cannot even imagine such a system."

If there were replicator machines, how would you buy it? How would you pay for repairs? What if someone wanted to have 2 of them, so they could replicate twice as much stuff?

What if a person wanted kiddie sex slaves? What if they wanted a nuclear bomb? Can those things be replicated?

Who will repair the machines?

Well, I envision a volunteer force of technicians. Just as people find help on the internet today for various technical topics there would be technicians that are willing to help. I actually envision a population in which advanced technical skills are the norm.

People will probably just fix stuff themselves. And eventually we will invent self repairing or even self replicating intelligent machines.
