I generally agree, especially given the need for a new set of consumers (which can really only develop through stable, liberal governance that allows for growth of financial institutions that foster industry and allow for a middle class).

But I strongly disagree that we can force a functional liberal system onto another nation through military action.

And if the options are: (1) help out a random conglomeration of unknown entities win, and then pray that the ensuing power vacuum is filled by nice guys, or (2) let the situation resolve itself, or even help a repressive but overall friendly regime maintain power, I'm going with option 2 a large majority of the time.

pretty much. to suggest the CIA doesn't have truck loads of data on what is going on and who is doing it in places of interest to american foreign policy is extremely naive.

As i've said before dressing up the war fatigue as isolationism is cute and all, but you know. World full of crazy bullshit doesn't go away when you close the curtains.

U.S foreign policy made the crazy mess that is several major international Islamist movements and oppressive military juntas trying to keep them down, also lol pakistan.
