Well the US is a wake up to the marriage scam. If the person is from Vietnam for instance their is virtually no chance of getting past the Embassy interview. And the questions you can get asked are extremely invasive, right down to preferred sexual positions. And if it is a third country immigration, forget it, aint gonna happen.

Being from Australia, the process was a lot more relaxed than it could have been

If you wanted to have an objective basis for our doctrine of behavior then you would have to look to the natural world, in which predation on the weak or infirm serves the highest biological purpose.

I think anyone should be able to come to the United States and make a living for themselves. I think this because I know that free trade is positive-sum, not zero-sum. If someone needs their lawn mowed, there is an immigrant who will mow it for a price, and at the end of the day, each is wealthier; one has a pristine lawn, the other has 100 bucks. So when people justify limiting the free movement of people based on the idea that somehow wealth is finite, and that at some point, a person wouldn't be able to trade with anyone, it seems preposterous to me. Our economy is so large, our interests so varied, our appetites so diverse that we have plenty of opportunities for immigrants. If there is no demand for lawn mowers, then move to another industry. Make art, build building, go to trade school, etc.
