Castle doctrine laws remove the duty to retreat before using deadly force when one is in their home.
I think it depends on the circumstances, and each situation would be unique. Should a woman or youngster be required to verbally confront an adult male intruder? I don't think they should have to. Many men can intimidate a weaker person and take the weapon from them. If that guy is in their property without authorization they have a right to secure the premises in such a way as to cause the least amount of risk of physical harm to themselves.
If you don't want to get shot don't break into people's houses. It pretty simple.
