Depends on the state, but teachers basically go through FBI background checks. Anything more than a class c misdemeanor makes a teacher ineligible unless it's been over 5-10 years, and felonies are considered automatic disqualifications. In fact, the only teachers with extensive records are usually old foggies. There's a few 50-60 year old teachers with DWI/DUIs from the 1980s when the government first got serious about the issue.

Teachers drink like sailors. A lot of my student teaching partners go to the college bars on Fridays to unwind. I see them there, heh. I'm sure some high school kid will sneak in one day, see a teacher, news will travel, and that teacher will be reprimanded (I call it 'employer bullying' because that's what it is).

Funny thing is I'm willing to bet every person who objected to her service has viewed porn. And over half of her students have, for sure.

We don't want purity. We want the PERCEPTION of purity. I actually talked to one of my Pre-AP classes about this a few months ago. Got some interesting responses.
