Walmart's business practices are no more or less destructive than anyone else, when viewed proportionally and against their constructive practices.
Yes, I'm aware that a Walmart will put a dozen other shops out of business when it comes to town. But, it also creates a few. There are always the couple of fast-food joints, the Gamestop, and a Super Cuts that pop up. Again, I know those aren't high-paying jobs. But, was that mom-n-pop grocery store really paying its stockboys $30/hr?
What about the people that Walmart helps? The ones who can't afford to shop at the mom-n-pop places? Or, the ones who end up becoming a millionaire because Walmart bought their widget. Or, most directly, what about the $130k/year manager? Basically, while I agree that there can be a lot of negatives to a Walmart, there are also a lot of positives.
On the other hand, that mom-n-pop didn't put anyone out of business. But, it also doesn't make ANYONE wealthy, including the owners (who live upstairs). They have such low volume, that they're not really even helping out that many customers. So, while there aren't a lot of negatives, there also aren't a lot of positives.
Walmart is no better or worse than any other company, on average.
