i made an analogy to show how equivocating the effects of both institutions is incredibly inaccurate. i did not make an analogy to change the premises of the discussion. so you do what you want as far as changing your argument in the middle of a discussion. it reflects on you, not me.

it's not a fail. you compared the destructive nature of both in a market. i compared the destructive nature of both. it's a completely proper analogy. you even made it easy by not changing the qualifier 'destructive'.

it's annoying that analogies can no longer be made on this site because it's more convenient for all of you to say it's not a real one than to just argue with it. no true scotsman fallacy out the ass in everyone's logic. end of rant.

It could be worse. At least he's acknowledging it was an analogy, rather than treating it as though you had made a literal claim.

intellectually dishonest? no, it's keeping up with the analogy. no dishonesty at all. and leave the analogies at the door? they're a legitimate tool for argumentation. as for getting off the topic it would be entirely on topic, in almost every case an analogy is employed, if the one who it is employed against would just accept it was a legitimate analogy instead of arguing the minutia of the items in the analogy or pulling a no true scotsman fallacy.
