Armed teachers - stupid kids

I was comparing high school science/math to college science/math in the first place.

College algebra is the most flunked class in college - which is child's play compared to "real" math. Science and math literacy are just as important as general literacy and yet we have a population of parents that want to bail out their kids because STEM is hard. If a kid can't write somewhat coherently about an observation in the lab, he's not qualified to graduate high school science, in my opinion.

So...? I created this topic specifically about science education. It's a well-known, observable and documented fact that most people consider STEM harder than humanities and social sciences.

Kinda off-hand remark here but it's relevant to the posts about students being smarter than teachers: one of our biology teachers is a coach. He switches in to the class across the hall. Because it's a lab room, I oftentimes sneak in to get some necessary supplies. EVERY SINGLE DAY he's sitting on his butt showing videos. I'll notice that the lights are dimmed for about half of the class. Other time it's a quiz or test. I get that coaches spend their afternoons at school or games, but come on. Our district and many others will hire coaches and then try to figure out where they can teach.

Arming teachers is yet another example of more bad ideas coming from the Republican party.

teachers are union thugs until they can be used as a "WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN" tool to further a republican cause.

Teachers in Texas aren't even unionized unless they elect to join a voluntary organization so the whole union mythos is BS. Yeah, get rid of bad teachers. Nobody disagrees with that notion. But bad teachers often give good grades. And if parents are happy, admins are happy.
