The major gov't cause of the housing burst was deregulation or gov't allowing freer markets.

But those blaming the gov't action are arguing for more deregulation. You can't blame the gov't for causing the housing burst and then argue to do more of what caused it.

Wait - let me get something straight here.

The government formulating strategies to make home loans more readily available to people who have bad credit is NOT part of the regulation/deregulation equation. You can regulate the market without interfering. And, doing that would substantially decrease the size of government.

Why do you think that the government should be in the business of trying to encourage lenders to give home loans to people who cannot afford them?

If somebody could please detail for me--let's start from the beginning here--where the gov't told outfits like Countrywide that they could completely falsify loan applications with regard to income or employment... I'd love to see that.

Because if it were legal, then why the need to falsify?
