I've seen a few movies the last 2 months or so.
1. Flight 5/10- I don't get the praise. Yes, Denzel played well and Goodman was funny, but this movie was terribly boring after plane crash, which is pretty early. Like, you could totally stop watching the movie after that moment and it's all good. I will give a bonus bump for the opening scene nudity of the chick from My Name is Earl.
2. Dredd 7/10 - Probably the biggest surprise movie for me. The Stallone version was ass but this was entertaining. It was mostly a straight action flick but done well. Didn't expect the gore aspect, either. I rented it because of the decent reviews and had no preconceptions about it and thus it ended up being a fun ride. I thought the chick was pretty hot too (I'm sensing a theme here...)
3. Premium Rush 7/10 - Another surprise movie. Nothing special but entertaining I think.
4. Looper 7/10 - Same as above. I'm a fan of movies that deal with time travel in interesting ways.
5. Ted 6/10 - Had some decent moments.
6. Skyfall 8/10 - Much better than QoS but I do think it's overrated. Had some major script issues that bothered me but the movie was a fun ride and I liked a lot of it.
7. ParaNorman 8/10 - Favorite movie of the bunch from last year. This was a sneaky good children's film with some adultish themes built in. This was probably the best family movie of the year last year. The concept was smart and I thought the ending was brilliant.
8. Brave 7/10 - It was an enjoyable movie but man was I disappointed. I thought this one was going to return Pixar to glory but I just was left feeling like the missed the boat on the story in the 2nd half of the movie. I liked that they had a female protagonist that didn't revolve around a love story and instead a daughter versus mother story but the execution wasn't there. Visually stunning, however.
9. Adventures of Tin-Tin 6/10 - It was okay, I guess
10. The Trap (a serbian film) 9/10 - Great movie. About a couple whose son gets very sick and they can't afford to pay for his surgery and the father resorts to assassination for hire to pay for it. Lots of layers to this film that I recommend anyone with Netflix Instant watch. I hear it's being remade of course.
