I just realised what Manning's crime was: he did it for free, and that's damn near commie. If he'd written a book about reuters cameramen and kids getting gunned down by apche gunships , instead of posting it, he would have ended up being funneled into the part of the American psyche which excuses nearly anything done in the quest for cash. He would have then occupied the same niche as corrupt bankers, maybe even investigative journalists. truly he was foolish.

This guy though... a hero, because we need to know the truth dammit. Kaaachiing!

No exactly up to the standards these guys hold themselves to. And he is putting his and his family's lives on the line. Slfish, frankly.

Thats not it at all. Manning stole information and gave it a whisteblower site. This guy, with the help of his lawyers so far is able to write this book legally under the restrictions given to him. As of yet, everything he is doing is legal unless the DoD and courts find it illegal. And odds are, he won't run and hide.
