I'm conflicted about how I envision the militia system.
On one hand, I'd like to see gun ownership limited to those who belong to a militia.
On the other hand, such a decree would require intrusion by a government body.
On one hand, I'd like to see national service be mandatory. The separation of defense from everyday life has resulted in many moral evils, like a standing army, and police militarization.
On the other hand, I have great moral doubts about forcing people into service, as it reminds me too much of the draft.
On one hand, I'd like to see militias held accountable for the actions of their members, which would give them incentive to institute gun discipline.
On the other hand, this requires the creation of some sort of accredition agency, which would almost certainly be abused by bureaucrats with a different perspective than us.
I think I'll make a thread about this. Let's hash out what such a system would look like.
