I was wary of the CFLs versus the incandescent at first. Not so much now that I've used them. I actually prefer their light, the only issue is it takes 1 min to reach full power. Of course the CFL is all you can get for most regular lights in California now, as the others are banned.
The incandescent used to heat up my room in summer like a bitch at night out here. The CFLs obviously don't. So much better this way.
And they have definitely lasted longer. price is good. i bought a bunch at costco on sale pretty cheap a while back; mostly needed that much to replace the old bulbs at my grandmother's at the time. I think I've only replaced 1 CFL bulb in 3 years but it's the one used most (opposed to a few times per year before).
This is one of those gray line issues for me. Not really sure how I come down on it. On one hand, I'm not opposed to a state voting to ban them (that's localized democracy) and on the other hand, I'm not sure of all the facts if this is a ban worth going after versus a tax. But whatever. I'm happy with the lights so far.
