Navy Seal book discloses secrets

So wait, this guy is being persecuted for a book, but the DoD itself let director Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal, her screenwriter, not only imbed themselves during the actual operation that killed OBL, but then go on to make a damn movie about it?

Well I'm about halfway through the book already and it's... okay. Anyone expecting Black Hawk Down or Bravo Two Zero is going to be disappointed.

It's closer in substance to Lone Survivor, but thankfully without the political ranting.

To this point, it's more of a "This is what it's like to be in the SEALS" book then one giving away any state secrets. I haven't read one thing yet that sounds like something vital was compromised.

UPDATE: finished the book this morning--a well-worthwhile read. It's sort of medium-going for the first 100 pages but once they get word they're going on this top secret mission you can't put it down. Some notes:

-While some of the claims differ with the official ones, most notably how Osama was killed, there's no huge OMG SMOKING GUN! contradiction
-He doesn't give away anything in the book that I could say was a big secret. He never divulges any of the intelligence methods used throughout, save for that we had drones in Pakistan, which is no secret
-Not a big fan of Obama's but SEALS never are. But it's not a rant against Obama by any means
-There's some really funny lingo/observations in it: my favorite--the dreaded "Good Idea Fairy."

I give it a thumbs-up. Read it in a day.

This guy is in deep shit. Regardless of the type of info you have... ya don't publish it. Use it if you're unusually intelligent and you can find someone who can use it, ... but publish it? What a f**k blockhead dumbass piece of shit.

I wouldn't call him a "f**k dumbass piece of shit" just for this book. Thats a bit much. I do however disapprove of this book. He's paying for it as he'll likely be shunned from the Spec Ops community for the rest of his life.

I also disapprove of the WH declassifying and providing info to a Hollywood producer to make a movie about it. Shit, I haven't seen it and probably won't but I wasn't crazy about the idea of Act of Valor.

These guys are so damned effective because nobody knows much about them. To keep that effectiveness partially relies on maintaining that elusiveness.

I dont think he's in any danger- it would take Al Qeuda a huge amount of resources to track him down when they could go for softer targets. But then again, a half crazed sympathizer might just get lucky...

Doubt his risk has jumped up tremendously. Does suck to be shunned by the Spec Ops community though. These guys are pretty night knit group.
