Because these proms are private parties put on by the parents and the school has no right to tell them to stop.

Wait - so it's the parents and not the school putting this on?
Let me understand the debate here - we're comparing institutionalized anti-gay practices in CA to and attempt to institutionalize anti-Muslim practices in NY and private racism in GA?
While dispicable, it's not illegal to host a private party ahd restrict attendance based on race. However, it is (and/or should be) illegal to discriminate upon sexual orientation and religion.
