The fact that military weapons are available to civilians is one of the only sane indications of freedom left to us. There was never supposed to be a standing army, therefore there was never supposed to be a military with which to compare the severity of weapons available to individual citizens.
Casualties from assault weapons are collateral damage of the faint remains of the freedoms we still cling to. You can't have it both ways.
