Problem is, when things turn around and profits come back, they won't pay back the loan. They'll buy a new HDTV and probably a car, and just make minimum payments forever.
Problem with comparing public debt to private, is that private debt goes away when you die. Public debt on the other hand just carries over and snuffs out the potential of future generations.
