I don't know. I grew up in New Orleans, and close. AAs make up about 30% of the population, or more. Don't see much racism against them here (outside the criminal justice system, that is - of course, AAs make up the majority of police, so does that count as racism?). We just got an influx of Mexicans (or those from south-of-Texas) after Katrina. They helped us rebuild. Not many people look down on them. And, NO has one of the largest LGBT populations in the country. We're very tolerant of them, too.
But, I do realize that NO is not representative of much of the South. NO is a very Bohemian city.
