Look, what we really need to get into as a society is connecting with our youth instead of letting so many smart kids go to waste because their needs are not being met by the peculiarities of our type of social mode. People have to work too many hours away from home, among many other things that take people away from their kids. Really people should be with their kids all day everyday. And if both parents can't be there at least one should be around.
All of these school shooting kids were highly intelligent people who for some reason or another were alienated by the social milieu. Maybe if they had someone to help or guide them through their difficulties this wouldn't happen.
Mass shooting etc are a symptom of our own social failings imho. They just don't happen in a vacuum, or because firearms are available. They happen because we are producing the kind of people who do these things. Some inducement exists that leads people to this result or it simply wouldn't happen. We have to find out what that is and correct it.
Personally I'm gratified that these incidents are rare. So it's not all bad news, just something we have to work on.
