fbi wasn't alerted to tsarnaev taking a 6 month trip to russia because an airline misspelled his name. the fbi was monitoring him as much as really they could, and probably would have looked closer had they seen him take that trip. although you'd think he'd have a passport with info that could be scanned instead of someone manually entering his name as being a passenger, this might put some fuel on the fire about national id cards

maybe, maybe not. thing is, the russians had their eye on him and asked americans to talk to him. that the russians had their eye on him... i think there could have been a missed opportunity, but likely we'll never know that one way or another

they might have taken him in for questioning again, to learn of what he was doing in russia

possibly. he seemingly became more and more devoutly muslim in the years after his initial questioning. it drove a wedge in his family, causing his parents to divorce (as his mother, like him, became deoutly muslim, and his father was bewildered why she wanted to dress that way and why his son gave up boxing). it obviously impacted him deeply, and so the fbi could have seen that
