The problem I have with drones is with surveillance. They make it too easy to violate privacy in places that have an expectation of privacy. So, the only way I would be fine with drones flying around is if I was allowed to own the airspace above my house.

Short of that, I don't want the government or private individuals flying drones around.

As for the extreme examples, I really can't see local law enforcement laying out tons of money on these things for singular rare purposes that could be solved in more mundane ways. I could see them buying drones as multipurpose, but one of those purposes is going to be surveillance.

depends on where the surveillance is taking place. surveillance into private buildings is a no, but anything that you could see from a public street... what's wrong with that? i'm not saying i like that as good policy, but drones could do a number of things. we could have them patrolling national parks as an early fire detection system, for example. this of course would spy on bears and people having sex while camping (which is f**k intense by the way) but whatever, you're on public land. similarly could be used as eye in the sky for chases, etc

drones are gonna end up being insect size sooner than later. they will be ubiquitous

Folks like Ron and Rand Paul offer a reactionary solution today's issues, but it is based on a false economic analysis and is designed to distract the public rather than to solve anything.

well, frankly there's little to be seen flying over. more to be seen flying near with a view into your house. and i dunno how'd you know who to sue, considering it could be your neighbor
