This is a slightly premature recommendation as I'm only about a 1/3 through but... it's only going to be avail till 4/30/13 as the author sold out to a major publisher (and I'm sure movie rights ect.)

Anyway, nearish future sci-fi about our 3rd manned trip to Mars. No aliens or none of that stuff, but basically guy got left for dead during an emergency evac and got left behind. Love the guys writing style, very entertaining and very detailed in what the guy is doing to try and save/feed himself.

Can't go wrong only 99 cents till Tue.

The last book in The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series.

That sounds good, Winchester. I read a book years ago called Putting Up Roots, but I can't remember the author. It was about the colonization of Mars. Awesome read.

Finally started reading Dreadnought, one chapter a night before beddy time. Incredibly detailed and an epic of a book, Massie starts right from the beginning, with how the British Empire became a world power because of her navy (the other countries were busy building up their land armies while England spent lavishly on her navy and that made the difference) and then on to Queen Victoria and how her grandchildren (Wilhelm of Germany- who actually had a withered arm because of a botched forceps birth which made him completely insecure for the rest of his life, Alix of Russia and of course the King of England were all cousins!) started the arms race that led to WW1. So many what-ifs of history in my thoughts when reading this book (Wilhelm's father wanted a German-England alliance because his wife was the daughter of queen Victoria and was very pro British and a liberal and if he had lived to be the Kaiser instead of his son it would have changed the course of history). Incredible.

I'm concurrently reading Empire by Steven Saylor and Eating the Dinosaur (again) by Chuck Klosterman.
