I agree that there is no good reason not to be able to disable it. But that is Windows for you. They aren't exactly renowned for customization.

In terms of how it makes you feel as a user, I guess I can get that. On the other hand, it's Windows. It is designed to be simplistic. It is for people who value ease of use over everything else.

You can't send a simple .doc file from MS Word, without going to considerable trouble, which is what most computers are used for.

The fact is most of the world uses MS. You can get by with Apple if you get windoze compatible software components.

Don't get me wrong, if you want to tinker and really learn how computers work Linux is awesome. But if you have to interact with a wide range of business contacts you have to go as generic as possible and that be MS.
