I'm torn on this concept. While I can see some benefit IDK how well it will change behaviors, some people will still overpay for education. There already exists the infrastructure for somewhat reasonably priced higher education through state universities/technical schools. If you're from a poor family, there are pell grants (maybe these should be increased), if you're from a middle income family there are some pretty generous tuition credits. While I don't do poorly financially, I'm not wildly wealthy either. Even if I weren't able to help my kids financially they would have gotten through school with $20-30K in Federal loans, hardly catastrophic. I do think in this current economy the SL interest rate is ridiculous.
