Despite budget cuts and ban, Obama buys Russian helicopters

The russians are going to make out like bandits. The got their asses handed to them, but will now be providing the same hardware back to the Afghans. They have become a part of the MIC.

We always opt for the Cadillac solution when a pinto will do. The caddy costs more, takes more fuel and oil to maintain and requires a specific caddy mechanic. Too expensive and time consuming.

They don't need fancy helicopters. They need something they can jump in and go. IIRC, a slick, (seen below) took 12 hours of maintenence for every hour in the air. But don't quote me on that. They were very good birds.

With certain people in this thread who despise Obama and will criticize anything he does this was also a damned if he did and damned if he didn't situation.

If he sold the Afghans top of the line American choppers he would be criticized for selling the Afghans our best equipment, these choppers that they may sell to our enemies or use against us in 5 years.. Lets face it, the Afghans aren't a good ally, if an ally at all.. Why give them the best when they may sell it or use it against us in a few years?
