The russians are going to make out like bandits. The got their asses handed to them, but will now be providing the same hardware back to the Afghans. They have become a part of the MIC.
We always opt for the Cadillac solution when a pinto will do. The caddy costs more, takes more fuel and oil to maintain and requires a specific caddy mechanic. Too expensive and time consuming.
They don't need fancy helicopters. They need something they can jump in and go. IIRC, a slick, (seen below) took 12 hours of maintenence for every hour in the air. But don't quote me on that. They were very good birds.
