Some heads may roll over this but I think Obama is safe, he seems to have insulated himself from any direct blame (or even responsibility). Unless there is a released email that directly implicates POTUS this doesnt mean much in the long run, Obama can weather this storm.

This kind of crap will always happen.

US policy is pretty much to act as a criminal organization so there are always going to be incidents where this reality intrudes into the finely crafted fantasy put forth by whichever party is currently running the show.

Of course the other side is there waiting to pounce on it, even though their own activities are practically identical. What the media presents to the public is nothing more than a dog and pony show designed to make sure it's always business as usual. Enough of the fake outrageous indignation. You know if Bush had done this you would be here defending the actions instead of attacking them.

well they didn't release any emails from the days immediately following the attack and those they did release were heavily redacted. still, even then, the emails do not paint the picture that the white house was claiming and in fact painted the opposite picture. what it will probably end up showing is that they were trying to spin it politically (this was right before the election, after all) and that's what they thought was the best course, and then decided to cover up their spin doctoring with more spinning. i doubt it would be a safe house for weapons or whatever some people claim.

Here's what i think happened.

They didn't really know what was going on. There was a similar attack in Egypt that very day. They looked at it through the partisan quisling glass that says 1. hate speech is bad & 2. intervention in Libya is good...and TA DA!
