High forest is quite nice in my opinion. Waaaay better hunting. Smells better, cleaner. Easier to cover ground. Maybe even nicer looking.
Around here its wildly overgrown and full of ferns and deciduous shrubbery. Everything covered in moss. 10 inches of organic forest floor litter all over the place. Wears you out to traverse it.
Alpine style forest>Temperate rainforest style forest
(on the other hand I get to pick lots of wild mushrooms as I go.)

Depends on how I draw. Prefer central oregon (for the afore mentioned high elevation lands) for the mule deer and elk. Its where I learned to hunt, in my youth. For blacktail...coast range. Which is pretty much temperate rainforest. Not as much fun. Plus blacktail are dinky and scared shitless of their own shadow.
