I retire in about a year. Between the pension and SS, I should be able to keep my massivly microscopic financial empire intact and do ok. The big trick is really pretty simple. Don't live beyond your means during your working life so you don't become a slave to your stuff.
The hardest part of doing nothing is knowing when your done.

How much do you guys have to save for college funds etc.? Because of the student loan system over here, it's rare for parents to pay for their kids university education.

Just had a co-worker and a really really quiet decent friend of mine hang himself in his garage and leave a young family behind over debt, so if I had no debt, I think I'd take steps to put myself in a position to fight predatory financial conditions.
