These companies are causing individual and social damage. There should be the possibility of compensatory damages.

You know, speaking of food stamps, and considering that the poorer people get the fatter they get, I'd wager we could take huge chunks out of the obesity problem through massive, draconian, food assistance reform. Strip foods eligible to be purchased with food stamps down to the essentials, as have been mentioned already, and people will have no choice but to eat properly. The point is to keep people from starving, not keep them fed in a manner they prefer.
Better yet, food stamps could be issued in caloric terms, rather than dollar terms.

No, if you are going to have food stamps they have to be able to get the same thing as everyone else.
It's better to sue the shit out of companies that produce DFPs (dangerous food products.)
